city sanctuary
Auburn University, 2024
The city of Barcelona contains 1.2 million residents and an additional 32 million annual visitors. With a large number of people walking the streets at all times, it is seldom easy to find a secluded place within the city to take a moment to rest. This is how the concept of the semi-private structure: “City Sanctuary” came to be. The structure’s intended placement is throughout the median walkway of Passeig Del Born, giving tourists and residents in the area a place to sit on a bench from the inside or outside; or a path alternative in which one may enjoy brief isolation from the rampant streets as they pass through.
Project mapping involving an analysis of the site and additional research.
Plan view of structure placement along Passeig Del Born.
Artistic rendering of "city sanctuary" in one of many spots it would be placed along the walkway throughout Passeig Del Born.
Mosaic flooring inspired by Barcelonan architect, Antoni Gaudi.
The floor is designed so the shadows cast by the sun through the stained glass roof add an additional component of interest to the interior.
